John “Johnny Boy” Wise Kamoku Sr., 72, of Hilo died Saturday at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers Local No. 3, U.S. Navy veteran, and member of Kamauloa O Ka Malamalama Church, Hui Maka’i Motorcycle Club, Leianakahinanoopuna, and Panaewa Hawaiian Homes Land Community Association. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Kamauloa O Ka Malamalama Church in Kurtistown, 17-604 Volcano Road (Highway 11); memorial service at 11 a.m. Aloha attire. Survived by wife, Mary Jane Kamoku of Hilo; son, John (Lisa Valle) Kamoku Jr. of Seattle; daughters, Piilani Kaawaloa of Pahoa, Jessanne (Edward) Paresa of Pahoa, Christine (Craig) Edmiston of Tracy, Calif., and Toni Marie (Orrin) Batalon Kaui of Pahoa; sister, Elsie Kihano of Waipahu, Oahu; brother, Jimmy Wise of Volcano; sister-in-law, Lei Mokiao of Nanakuli, Oahu; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Henry Kahsen, 67, of Keaau, died Dec. 28 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Chicago, he was a retired steel worker for UNR Levitt. Funeral services will be held at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home on Monday. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m.; service at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by wife, Cynthia M. Hockey of Kea’au; sons, Rob (Gretchen) Kahsen of Kea’au and Henry Ernest Kahsen of Chicago; daughters, Rachel Kahsen of Chicago and Heather Kahsen of Illinois; brothers, Charles Bruining of Arkansas, James (Ellen) McVey of Illinois, Jerry (Marj) Kahsen of Illinois and Lawrence (K.C.)
